HOW TO GROW AND CARE TECOMA PINK (TECOMA STANS PINK)

 



Tecoma pink(Tecoma stans pink)
is a species of flowering perennial shrubs in the trumpet vine family Bignoniaceae, that i native to the America common name Pink tecoma, Pink Trumpet tree, Pink Manjack. Tecoma Pink  is a plant that is cultivated as an ornamental. It has sharply toothed pinnate green leaves and bears large showy bright pink colour trumpet shaped flowers. It is a drought tolerant and grows well in warm climates. Tecoma pink is a fast growing evergreen climber. Tecoma pink produces large clusters of bright pink, trumpet shaped flowers that are 2 to 5 inch in length during spring and summer. The flowers attract bees, butterflies and humming birds.

Some additional reasons for their popularity include, they are inexpensive, readily available, low maintenance, relatively drought resistant and vibrant bloomers through much of the year.


EASY STEPS TO GROW AND MAITAINANCE OF TECOMA PINK ( Tecoma stans pink)

1.       You can purchase it from any nursery or propagate through germination of seeds or by cuttings.

Seed Germination

2.       Tecoma pink is an abundant seed producer. Collect mature dry seeds. Seeds from the plant do not require special care and can be stored for several months before planting.

3.       For germination set the dried seeds in germination try or any garden containers fill with rich sand (60%) base soil potting mix. Cover seeds lightly with the medium.

4.       Now give water in planting medium. After than place the try or container in indirect light.

5.       Keep it moist but not wet well until sprouts out.

6.       Seeds will be germinated in 2 to 3 weeks.

Propagation by Cutting

7.       If you want to propagate it from cuttings than take 4 to 5 inches long woody shoots in spring. Cutting the shoots just below the nodes. Cutting must contain 2 to 4 leaves.

8.       Use rooting medium like IBA (Indole butyric acid) powder to induce roots in cuttings.

9.       Use 5 to 6 inches diameter containers to develop seedlings.

10.   Use potting mix like 60% loamy soil+ 30% sand + 10% coco peat.

11.   Potting mix pour into the containers and watering high before transplant cuttings.

12.   Now cuttings are washing in low concentrate broad spectrum fungicide or by fresh water.

13.   Now cuttings are deep in rooting medium and transplant it in potting medium by making hole by pencil tips.

14.   3 to 5 cuttings placed in potting medium and covered it with transplant polythene and put it under semi shade area.

15.   Wet medium regularly as needed to keep it moist but not soaking wet.

16.   Cuttings will starts develop new roots within 2 to 4 weeks.

17.   Transplant the seedling to an outdoor location or garden container after the new plants has reached 6 to 12 inches tall.

Light requirement

18.   Tecoma pink require full sun exposure.

19.   A very bright light is required up to 5 hours of direct sunlight per day.

20.   When there is a lack of lighting, the bloom is weakened.

21.   It is advisable to ensure good lighting.

22.    Shades reduces flowering and encourages undesirable shape and drastic defoliation.

Water Requirement

23.   Potted Tecoma pink need regular watering from spring to late summer.

24.   Allow the soil to dry out slightly between watering.

25.   The amount of water needed depends on the environmental conditions, size of plant and pot size.

26.   In winter watering is reduce, especially at low storage temperature.

 

Fertilizer requirement

27.   Plants do not require abundant fertilizer.

28.   Use NPK (10:26:26) ¼th teaspoon in a month during growth period.

29.   You may use any organic fertilizer once in every two months.

30.   Avoid fertilize during the rest period in autumn and winter.

Pruning

31.   The size of the plant can be controlled by pruning and by doing so more branching out and thereby more blooming occurs.

32.   Flowers are born on new growth, so pinch back and pruning is necessary to induce new growth.

33.   Pruning should be done after flowering has finished, as the encourages the new growth on which the next flush of flowers will occur.

34.   Transplant annually, gradually increasing the size of the pot.

 



Pest management

35.   Cut off old, damage or dead branches at their base and remove them.

36.   Do this in the springtime before new growth.

37.   Plants are resistant to pests. Sometimes insect pest like spider, mite, whitefly, scab can infect use 5% Neem oil as foliar spray.

1.       Tecoma pink is an ornamental plant found throughout the India.

2.       Pink Tecoma grown as a street, parking lot and ornamental tree in Hawaii.

3.       In the West Indies, where it is native, the wood is harvested for timber.

4.       Preparations of the bark of the tree are consumed to eliminate intestinal parasite, malaria and uterine cancer.

5.       A decoction of plant flowers, leaves and roots are used for to reduce fever and pain
