HOW TO CONTROL DISEASES
OF ROSE
There are six main pest and diseases that can infect your rose. Here I have just shared some tips to control diseases of Rose
1. APHIDS:-
a) Mix ½ teaspoon mild dish soap and one teaspoon cooking oil in a 4 cup water and spray liberally over entire plant.
b) This spray mix should be re-applied every 3-4 day until aphids are gone.
c) You may use Neem oil 5ml/lit as foliar spray.
d) You may use any insecticidal soap or horticulture oils are effective against aphids.
2. BLACK FLIES :-
a) Use lemon eucalyptus oil. Add 10-15 drops to a cup of water in bottle and spray on plant.
b) You may also use citronella and cedar. Burning these in candles will better against black flies.
c) You may purchase Green Dragon Neem oil or Accon, jump insecticide from online shop.
Use it as per recommendation of product.
3. WHITE FLIES :-
a) White flies in both nymph and adult stages feed on plant by sucking juice from the
plant tissue.
b) Spray plants with a strong blast of water to knock white flies off the leaves spray the bottom of each leaf and clear all eggs there.
c) Now spray plant with insecticidal soap paying attention to the underside of the leaves.
d) You may purchase ortho flower, fruit and vegetable insect killer.
4. MILDEW :-
a) Try to water early in the day or whenever leaves will dry quickly, to ensure dry foliage at night.
b) Check all new plants for symptoms upon receipt. Early detection is the only way to control downy mildew.
c) Remove infected leaves and stems .Treat your rose with any broad spectrum fungicide.
5. RUST :-
a) Rose rust fungus appears as small orange or rust coloured spot on the leaves and will grow to bigger marking as the infection advances.
b) Keeping good airflow through and around the rose leaves will prevent this rust disease from developing.
c) Dispose infected leaves immediately. Use any fungicide as foliage spray to treat the infection.
6. BLACK SPOT :-
a) Good garden hygiene is important for treating black spot roses.
b) During the growing season, overhead watering should be avoided.
c) Keeping the rose bushes thinned well at pruning and deadheading times will help the airflow through the bush, thus also help to prevent black spot on roses and other fungal diseases outbreaks.
d) Use Neem oil as foliage spray to prevent black spot rust.
